A county council worker has died in a road traffic collision in Co Sligo

A second worker has been airlifted to Sligo General Hospital with serious injuries. He is a man in his 50s and he was airlifted to University Collage Hospital Galway.

Two other males were taken to Sligo Regional Hospital with injuries described as non life threatening.

The incident occurred at around one o'clock this afternoon on the N4 about one mile south of Castlebaldwin, between Boyle and Sligo.

The men were struck by a lorry whilst hedge-cutting near Castlebaldwin.

Gardaí and the ambulance services rushed to the scene of the accident.

The N4 main Sligo to Carrick on Shannon road is closed.

The man who died is believed to have been in his 60s and a local in the area.

The incident comes after two died in separate incidents in Wicklow last night.

A motorcyclist died after a crash involving a jeep and another motorcyclist near Blessington.

Another man died after falling from a horse drawn cart in Kilmacanogue.
