The man charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Jason Cierens, leaving the Corkman in a coma, has been granted bail by a Australian court.

Cierans has been in an induced coma since the incident on Saturday at Bondi Junction, a popular area for nightlife in the city.

The Corkman's mother spoke to the media outside the hospital.

"I need him to get well and come home to me," she told reporters.

"I want him back in my arms. I want to kiss and hug him."

The 29-year-old's condition is described as critical but stable.

"I can't be any prouder of my son," she said.

"Any parent whose son or daughter lives abroad has this fear when the door knocks late at night.

"Our world turned upside down on Friday night."
