The scene of the fire this morning
A man has told of how he jumped from an upstairs window to escape a fire which has claimed the life of one man, while two others are in hospital with their injuries.
Emergency services attended the scene of the fire which broke out on Grove Park, Rathmines, Dublin this morning at approximately 7am.
Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed eight of their units and three ambulances attended the blaze.
The period house is split into flats and the fire broke out in the middle floor.
Gardai have confirmed that one of those injured in the fire has passed away.
Two others remain remain in St James' Hospital and are understood not to be seriously injured.
One man told Independent.ie how he had to jump from an upstairs window to escape the flames.
"The fire alarm went off at around 7am and I heard that, and when I looked out the door the building was full of smoke," said Gundars Lazdins (25).
"I could not go down the stairs, then I started hearing bangs and explosions, and I said to myself 'I have to get out', so I wet a towel and put it over my head and jumped out the window onto an extension below me. There was no other way," he added.
Gardai have cordoned off the scene.
Emergency services said everyone has been accounted for at the scene and the fire has been extinguished.
Grove Park was closed to traffic, but since reopened shortly before 9am.
