ARMED gardai have raided a number of homes in Letterkenny in Donegal as part of an investigation into an alleged 'slave' trade.

Gardai seized mobile phones and computers as part of an ongoing operation which is also targeting people trafficking and prostitution in the Border counties.

The raids were carried out today in the Fortwell complex in the town, reports suggest.

Detectives believe teenagers and young men in their 20s have been trafficked into Ireland from eastern Europe to work as 'slaves' in a number of businesses.

Six men were rescued from a premises in Letterkenny earlier this month, with four returned to their families.

The HSE is assisting gardai in the investigation.

A number of apartments were searched as part of the investigation this afternoon.
