Victim: Siobhan Phillips
The girlfriend of garda killer Adrian Crevan Mackin may be facing a lifetime of care due to her injuries, reports suggest.
According to a report in today's Irish Sun, doctors have expressed concern that Siobhan Phillips (21) may lose an eye following the horror gun attack.
Doctors at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where the young woman is in critical condition, are worried she will need lifetime care as she sustained very serious injuries.
A source said: "Siobhan is a fighter and is hanging in there but she faces a very long road to recovery because of the extent of her injuries.
"She has already suffered catastrophic head injuries but doctors are extremely concerned she could lose the sight in one of her eyes."
The source added that gardai may never get the chance to interview Ms Phillips about the harrowing ordeal.
Gardai discovered a cache of weapons when they searched Crevan Mackin’s car following the gun attack on his former partner.
Sources believe he may have been planning an attack, possibly on Siobhan's family.
"The second hand gun was a working firearm and was found with a very large quantity of ammunition in the car and cans of petrol... it is clear that Crevan Mackin was planning a much bigger attack last Sunday evening," a source told the Irish Independent
"As the background to this horrific incident is being unravelled, it is becoming clear that Crevan Mackin was intent on murder and may also have been contemplating attacking Siobhán's family.
"The picture that is emerging is of a completely out-of-control, extremely violent individual."
The 24-year-old brute was previously deemed to be “extremely dangerous” by a psychologist who said he was likely to pose a serious threat to others, particularly Siobhán Phillips.
A report on the 24-year-old, who was on bail for IRA membership, was compiled at the behest of the North's social services.
According to reports Mackin had threatened the lives of two female social workers in Northern Ireland who were investigating him for domestic abuse against his former partner.
