Gardai in Dungarvan are appealing for witnesses

Gardai are appealing to the public for witnesses after a bus full of people crashed into a field, killing the driver.

The crash occurred on the N25 at Grange, Ardmore, Co. Waterford at approximately 10.15pm last night.

Passengers on the bus, which was reportedly carrying a sports team to Cork, had to be rescued from the vehicle after it crashed into the field. 

It is understood that the passengers on board comprised a gaelic team from Cork Institute of Technology,

There was no other vehicle involved, a garda spokesperson said.

Passengers were able to exit the coach but the driver was seriously injured as a result of the crash. 

Emergency services were called and fire Service personnel from Dungarvan and Ardmore attended the scene.

They managed to cut the driver from the bus and he was taken to Cork University Hospital, reports suggest. 

However, he was pronounced dead early this morning.

The passengers of the bus were not injured. 

Gardai in Dungarvan are investigating the single-vehicle collision.
