Status Yellow weather warning for nine counties

A Status Yellow weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann with 25-45mm of rainfall and strong southeasterly winds expected throughout he day.

The weather warning is for Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.

It is predicted to be wet and windy in southern parts of Munster and Leinster today with rain becoming persistent with heavy falls at times.

Southern and eastern coasts will be subject to strong, southeasterly winds throughout the day also.

Consequently, during periods of high tide, these winds may give rise to coastal overtopping, reports the Met Eireann.

Highest temperatures will range from 12 to 15 degrees.

Tonight the rain will continue in most areas with heavy falls in places, especially in south Leinster.

However the rain will gradually clear to showers by dawn.

Lowest temperatures overnight of 8-12 degrees.

Outbreaks of rain will continue to affect Leinster, Ulster and Connacht for most of tomorrow, with some heavy falls in eastern coastal counties in the afternoon
