A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has pleaded guilty to criminal damage incidents at a therapeutic care centre for troubled teens.

The young boy had been held at the Ballydowd Special Care Unit in west Dublin where children are detained by court order for their own care and welfare.

The Dublin Children's Court heard that on a date in October, the boy caused €300 worth of damage when he climbed a pillar and started punching the roof. In another incident in April he used a mop handle to poke holes in a ceiling and to break a light fitting, causing €100 worth of damage.

The boy, who had no prior criminal convictions, was remanded on bail by Judge John O'Connor to appear again next month when a probation report will be furnished to the court.
