A DUBLIN man has been accused of headbutting and injuring his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend during a visit to her home.

Andrew Lee (25) is also alleged to have spat in her face in the incident. The case was adjourned at Dublin District Court.

Mr Lee, with an address at North Circular Road, is charged with assault causing harm to the woman.

Dublin District Court heard the incident allegedly happened on February 16 last.

The court heard it would be alleged that, while the defendant was visiting his ex-partner's North Circular Road flat, an altercation took place. It was alleged he headbutted her and also spat in her face. She was seven-and-a-half months pregnant at the time, a garda witness alleged.

A file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the garda added.

While the officer was giving evidence, the defendant said: "It's not true."

Mr Lee's lawyer said statements had been disclosed by the prosecution, including a medical report.

After reading this, Judge Anthony Halpin accepted jurisdiction to deal with the case in the district court. He granted bail and free legal aid after there were no garda objections.

The judge adjourned the case for the defendant to indicate how he intends to plead to the charge.
