The father of a man who is missing and feared murdered received a chilling death threat after making an appearance on Crimecall.

Joseph Maughan, father to Willie, was the subject of a terrifying threat after appearing on RTÉ's crime investigation programme last month.

Willie and his girlfriend Ana Varslavane vanished in County Meath earlier this year and have not been heard from since. Detectives fear the couple were abducted and murdered.

Mr Joseph Maughan was attending an event to mark National Missing Persons Day in Dublin yesterday when he revealed he was left fearing for his life following the threat.

"We're in bits - the whole family is in bits.

"We were on the telly there two weeks ago and I got threatened that evening and my daughter, Tina, got threatened later on that evening.

"More or less, threatening my family: 'You'll be going to the graveyard again'. I know I'm going the graveyard, but when - that's up to God and nobody else.

"Only one person can stop me from speaking out, and if He wants me to stop, I'll stop."

Mr Maughan at the time appealed directly to the people he believes know something of Willie’s disappearance.

“I’m asking those people to come forward and clear your conscience. This is not something that you want to be taking  with you because your conscience will never be clear until you make your information known to the Gardai.”

He said his family would have “closure” if he learned what happened to his son.

“It would mean I could bury the pair of them. If I got permission, I would bury the two of them in the same coffin. I would bury Willie with his brother in Bonnabriew and give him a proper burial."

Yesterday's event was attended by friends and family of over 200 missing persons.

Hundreds of people from across the country gathered at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park to remember loved ones who never came home.
