A crony of the late Eamonn ‘The Don’ Dunne has been hit with a whopping €1.3 million bill by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB).

Derek McLoughlin, who had a lucky escape in 2013 when a hitman’s gun jammed during an attempt on his life, has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar by CAB.

The 50-year-old former soldier from Ardgillen Heights in Balbriggan, is well known to gardai and was previously handed a four year suspended sentence for attacking a man in Ballymun and headbutting a garda in 2010.

Sources told the Irish Daily Star that the €1,335,768 CAB bill will be a major source of annoyance for the thug.

“This is a significant bill and CAB, as they have shown in the past, will be very rigorous in chasing it down,” a source told the Star.

McLoughlin was a close friend of the Don and even carried Dunne’s coffin during his funeral.

In March 2012 McLoughlin dodged a jail term for bashing Michael McDonagh at the Ballymun Tower Centre in 2010.

He later grabbed a detective by the throat and head-butted him while being fingerprinted in the garda station.

He was handed a four-year suspended sentence by Judge Martin Nolan.
