A DUBLIN man, who was allegedly caught transporting bullets and a Russian-made semi-automatic handgun, has been remanded on continuing bail pending the preparation of a book of evidence.
Gardai stopped and searched a car at 5pm on July 13th at Carton Way in Ballymun in north Dublin.
Michael Hanney, 22, of Marewood Crescent in Ballymun was charged with unlawfully possessing a Marakov 9mm handgun and three rounds of ammunition at Carton Way.
He made his fourth appearance at Dublin District Court today where Judge John Cheatle heard the DPP has directed he should face trial on indictment. This means he will face trial before a judge and jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
He has not yet entered a plea.
Defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said there was consent to a six-week adjournment for the State to prepare a book of evidence. Mr Hanney was ordered to appear again on March 9th.
At his first hearing, in July, defence solicitor Michael Kelleher said it was alleged his client was “in the role of the courier rather than anything more serious”. Mr Kelleher had said the 22-year-old is the main carer for his mother and an ill brother.
He has been ordered to sign on three days a week at his local Garda station, to surrender his passport, obey a curfew and not have any contact with a co-accused.
