The Defence Forces bomb disposal team dealt with a viable explosive device at a halting site in Galway overnight.
According to the Irish Times, the incident took place at Ballybrit and all residents of the site were evacuated at 11.15pm last night after the device was found by a resident.
The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal arived and carried out a controlled explosion.
The site was declared safe again at about 2.30am.
After inspection the Defence Forces have declared that the device was viable and they are now working with gardai as they investigate the incident.
