Gardai at the scene of the shooting at the Regency Hotel
A large Garda presence is at the scene of the violent shooting at a Dublin hotel this afternoon that left one man dead and another fighting for his life.
At least one person is confirmed to be dead and a second seriously injured after the shooting at a boxing weigh-in in Dublin.
Panic ensued at the Regency Hotel in Dublin after two individuals armed with guns started firing during the pre boxing weigh-in for an MGM sponsored event at the National Stadium which was due to take place tomorrow night.
It is understood that witnesses say that the gunmen, one of whom may have been dressed at a woman, targeted two individuals and started firing.
Gardai arrived at the hotel minutes later - a witness described the scene as "absolute pandemonium".
Boxer Jamie Kavanagh, whose father Gerald ‘Hatchet’ Kavanagh was murdered last year in Spain and whose uncle Paul Kavanagh was later shot dead, was the headline act for the show.
Kavanagh is managed by Daniel Kinahan.
It is understood that the shooting began shortly after 2.30pm where boxers, their extended families and spectators had gathered.
A burnt out van was later found in the Marino area of Dublin and is being examined for any links to the shooting.
It is understood that a number of major gangland figures were in attendance at the weigh in including Dublin brothers Liam and David Byrne and their cousin Liam Roe.
