Concerns are growing over the disappearance of a teenage girl and her 12-week-old baby - who have now been missing for nearly three days.

Northamptonshire Police detectives are "increasingly concerned" for the welfare of 15-year-old Katie Kelly and her little girl Kiah-Mae Boyle, who have not been seen since 7.30pm on Tuesday night.

Now, her foster mother has appealed to the teenager, from Long Buckby, to let police and family know she is safe.

The search for the pair's whereabouts has now been expanded to include officers from four different police forces, including West Midlands Police, Lincolnshire Police and British Transport Police.

At a press conference today, Detective Chief Inspector Elliot Foskett said it was "very worrying" that the young girl had not been in touch because she had not taken any money or supplies for her child when she left.

Yesterday, police said Katie's 18-year-old boyfriend Karl Boyle had also not been heard from since Tuesday night.

Mr Foskett appealed directly to Mr Boyle, urging him to come forward if he had any information.

Despite carrying out extensive searches, no trace has been found of mother and baby, last seen in Standens Barn area of Northampton.

Mr Foskett told media: "Over the past 24 hours, we've carried out extensive searches to find both 15-year-old Katie Kelly and her 12-week-old baby Kiah-Mae, who are still missing.

"This has involved work with police from a number of forces across the country.

"Despite this, we've still not heard from Katie nor her boyfriend Karl Boyle and we are growing increasingly concerned."

Mr Foskett also read an appeal from Katie's foster mother, saying: "Please just let somebody know that you and Kiah-Mae are safe and well

"We're really missing both of you and so are all your family. We're worried about you both and just want you back safe and well."

He said police had taken the step of putting credit on Katie's mobile phone so could get in touch.

Mr Foskett explained that the teenager had gone missing before, but never with the baby.

He said: "That's what is causing concern. We think Katie is a good mum, she looks after the baby very well, but our concern is her ability to be able to cater for the baby's essential needs as the days go by.

"She's got no money or source of income, so thoughts turn to how is she going to sustain that."

Katie is described as 5ft 7ins and of slim build, with long dark brown hair and green eyes.

She was wearing a diamond-effect bracelet, a gold locket, black leggings, a white T-shirt and trainers.
