Alan Barnfield
A convicted rapist who was accused of sexually assaulting a Shetland pony has been convicted of possessing graphic material on his computer.
Alan Barnfield (45) denied four counts of making child pornography and five counts of possessing extreme pornographic images at Sheffield Crown Court.
Police seized the Doncaster man's laptop, external hard drive and USB stick, all of which contained indecent and explicit material, police said.
Barnfield told police the material was already on his laptop when he purchased it from an electronics store in Doncaster town.
However, the court heard from the store manager who said he has no record - electronically or otherwise - of Barnfield purchasing the item.
Officers analysing the laptop found tens of thousands of images and videos, some of which included videos of people having sex with dogs and horses.
Police also discovered a graphic snuff video which showed the rape and murder of a woman which was described as 'deeply disturbing'.
The court heard the clip bore similarity with the rape of a woman Barnfield was convicted of over ten years ago.
He was yesterday convicted of possessing the material and sentenced to seven years.
In August of 2012, Barnfield was also found 'sweating' and 'smelling of horses' by police after worried neighbours spotted him in the area.
He was allegedly acting suspicious before being witnessed putting something around the neck of a Shetland pony and leading the two animals to a dark wooded area.
Prosecutor Louise Reevell said at the time: "It is at this time the prosecution say that intercourse took place out of sight in a dark wooded area at the end of the paddock."
Police arrived at the scene and searched Barfield's rucksack, looking for items he might have used to commit theft.
They found several cans of Lynx deodorant, a length of white electrical cable, a handheld water sprayer, a cloth, a metal dog chain and two bottles of Lucozade, the court heard.
Barfield told police he was 'just out walking' and denied any sexual intercourse with the animal.
Miss Reevell said the next day owner Jodie Walton inspected her ponies and found Sky - her Shetland Pony - appeared to be in discomfort.
He was cleared of having sex with the Shetland pony but convicted of public indecency.
