A Louth man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to the possession of explosives last year.
David Gallagher (38) was arrested along with his co-accused Gareth Mulley (45) and another man in May last year after a garda operation against dissident republicans in the Co Louth area involving the Crime and Security Branch and the Special Detective Unit.
Mr Gallagher was charged with the unlawful possession of the explosive substances PETN and RDX, an adapted 50 litre beer keg, 50 kg of ammonium nitrate homemade explosive, an improvised detonation cord, an improvised steel booster tube and an improvised time and power unit at Kilcurry Church on May 25, 2014.
Today at the non-jury court Mr Gallagher, of Marley Court, Drogheda, Co Louth, pleaded guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the accused man, Mr Michael O’Higgins SC, said he was not planning on proceeding to sentence today and asked for a remand on the same terms and conditions.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler said the court would remand Mr Gallagher in custody to appear before the court again on October 13th next for sentence.
Earlier today his co-accused Gareth Mulley was jailed for ten years by the court having been found guilty of the same charge.
