Dee Fennell (L) with Gary Devlin (R)
Ardoyne mouthpiece Dee Fennell has come under fire once again for his choice of company.
Fennell is now in cahoots with notorious Ballymurphy hood Gary Devlin, a career criminal who has terrorised his own area since he was a teen.
Devlin was prominent in the recent anti-internment parade in Belfast, standing side by side and openly joking with new pal Fennell.
This latest development has heaped more criticism on Fennell whose desperation to recruit support has made him a laughing stock within his own community.
The dissident parade, organised by Fennell under the umbrella of the Anti-Internment League, was subject to restrictions from the Parades Commission and only attracted a crowd of around 150 people.
Early last month Fennell came under attack from Harry Fitzsimmons, the then Belfast leader of Saoradh.
Fitzsimons, currently on bail charged alongside other prominent dissidents Alex McCrory and Colin Duffy, raised a number of concerns with the group’s leadership about the activities of Fennell, only to be sacked from his role.
The appearance of Gary Devlin alongside Fennell is an embarrassing development for Saoradh whose leadership may now be questioning if they supported the wrong man.
One dissident source told this paper: “Harry Fitzsimmons raised serious concerns about Fennell and those he was associating with. Yet the Duffys backed Fennell and shafted Harry. Now weeks later we see him running round with hoods and having them leading his parade.
“People stayed away from it this year because they don’t want to be associated with Fennell and the people he’s running with.
“If Paul Duffy wants to be associated with the likes of Gary Devlin then fair enough the rest of us will be nowhere near it.”
