Another price hike for cigarettes may be on the cards according to Finance Minister Michael Noonan.
“We may raise some taxes, obviously on health grounds. There's always an interest in raising duty on tobacco. We won't rule it out completely,” he said at the Fine Gael think-in in Limerick, today.
The Finance Minister went on to say that October’s Budget will be framed to ensure it reaches “every door of every household in the country”.
The Fine Gael politician spoke of plans to introduce major housing and childcare programmes, as well as measures aimed at making it easier to women to re-enter the workforce.
There will also be a heavy emphasis in the Budget on cutting taxes for the self--employed, Mr Noonan said.
