The man who died from head injuries following an attack in Celbridge yesterday evening was well known to gardai.
Noel Winterlich died yesterday following an incident at Willowbrook Park, Celbridge at 8.50pm.
In 2013 Mr Winterlich pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm on November 9, 2008 on Cork Street in Dublin.
Winterlich, a hepatitis and HIV sufferer bit a garda so hard he broke the officer’s skin and drew blood.
The garda was given the all clear six months later.
Winterlich had a history of drug addiction and 51 previous convictions for minor offences and in December 2014 he was before Dublin Circuit Court charged with handling stolen goods.
Yesterday a man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the death Noel Winterlich at a house in Celbridge, Co Kildare.
The incident occurred yesterday at Willowbrook Park, Celbridge at 8.50pm.
It has since been revealed that the two men knew each other and that drink is believed to have been a factor in the incident.
The scene is preserved pending the arrival of the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis and the Garda Technical Bureau.
