The former partner of garda killer Martin McDermott has described her ex as evil and heartless.

34-year-old Mairead Hayes also said McDermott had never showed remorse for the death of garda Gary McLoughlin.

The thug was released from the Midlands Prison in July of this year after serving just four years of a seven-year sentence for killing gda McLoughlin in Co Donegal in 2009.

Now his ex-partner has lifted the lid on the garda killer who, she claims, owes her €3,000, after he was involved in another car accident, which forced the criminal to flee to Northern Ireland.

“This man Martin McDermott has to be one of the most evil, heartless people I have ever come across in my life,” she wrote on social media.

“What sort of person drink drives causing the death of another person, serves five-and-a-half years in jail, gets out and crashes again – someone with no remorse or regard for other people’s lives.

The Irish Daily Star reports that she lent McDermott €3,000 when he left prison and she is furious that he hasn’t paid her back.

“To think I spent four-and-a-half years looking after this moron because I genuinely believed he was a good man and wanted to change his ways and appreciated everything I did for him, loaned him money to buy clothes and get back on his feet when he got out and the evil pig gets out and walks away and won’t give me back a penny – more fool me,” she said.

“I would strongly urge people not to trust this excuse of a man as he has no morals and gets what he can from people then moves on to the next victim.”

Ms Hayes also attacked McDermott’s lack of remorse for killing gda McLoughlin.

“His actions already caused one death of a man who was someone’s boyfriend, someone’s son, someone’s brother and he gets a second chance at life and drinks and drives again,” she said.

“He never showed remorse that first time - it’s only a matter of time until he destroys more lives.”

Gardai now want to interview McDermott about a car crash he was involved in in Co Donegal just a few weeks after being released from prison.

But he has crossed the border into the North to stay out of their reach.

The brazen career criminal even posed for a picture with his pals in Derry where he lifted his jumper to show off the special brace he needed to wear after suffering serious back injuries in the smash.

McDermott, who already had 91 previous convictions, was sentenced in 2011 for the role he played in the death of garda Gary McLoughlin.

The brute led police on a 30 kilometre high-speed chase before crashing into McLoughlin’s patrol car.

McDermott was later found to have had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he drove his car straight at the garda vehicle.

The impact left garda McLoughlin with serious injuries from which he later died, while McDermott was thrown 50 metres from his own vehicle.

It was recognised at the coroner’s inquest that the officer had managed to steer his vehicle to one side, saving his colleague from more serious injuries.

After McDermott’s escape in 2012, the garda Representative Association were furious that a person convicted of killing a serving officer had been sent to an open jail.

The GRA at the time demanded higher penalties for killing a garda to protect gardaí on duty.

It later emerged that McDermott had only been transferred to Loughan House 12 days before he did a runner. In 2007, he had absconded from the same unit after he was sent there to serve time for a previous offence.McDermott was also at the centre of a prison sex scandal before his release.

The complaint claimed that the inmate was “masturbated to orgasm” despite the presence of other prisoners and their visitors in the visiting room at Portlaois Prison.
