A man is in a critical condition following a motorbike collision in Dublin's north inner city overnight.
The incident occurred at the junction of Sean McDermott Street and Buckingham Street in Dublin 1.
Members of Dublin Fire Brigade, with a unit from Tara Street station, and gardai from Store Street Garda Station attended the scene overnight.
It's understood there were a number of incidents in the area - two separate collisions involving a jeep and a car were also reported.
A number of bins in the area were also set on fire. According to one witness, members of the fire brigade "came under attack" as they dealt with the occurrences.
The motorcyclist, who is in his early 20s, was seriously injured following the collision. He was rushed to the Mater Hospital and was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he is understood to be in a critical condition this morning.
The Garda Ombudsman (GSOC) is investigating the collision.
A statement from the Garda Ombudsman said: "GSOC is investigating a road traffic incident which occurred just before 5am this morning at the junction of Buckingham St and Sean McDermott St in Dublin 1.
"A motorbike and a Garda patrol car collided, resulting in serious damage to both vehicles and what appears to be serious injury to the driver of the motorbike - a man in his early 20s. He was taken to the Mater Hospital and later transferred to Beaumount Hospital.
"A forensic collision examination has been undertaken.
"The incident was referred by the Garda Síochána to GSOC under section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, which is normal procedure when a death or serious harm has occurred and there has been Garda contact. A team of GSOC investigators has attended the scene and an investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is being undertaken.
"GSOC is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has information which may assist the investigation, to contact them on 1890 600 800."
