Teen dead in Christmas morning tragedy

A teenager has died following a collision between two motorbikes in West Dublin this morning.

The crash occurred shortly before 8am in Ballyfermot.

The teenage boy was seriously injured when two motorcycles collided on Cherry Orchard Avenue.

He was rushed from the scene to St James's Hospital but was pronounced dead a short while later.

The second motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was also taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road is now closed and diversions are in place.

The scene is being examined by gardai forensic collision investigators and the Dublin coroner has been informed.

Gardai are now appealing for anybody who may have witnessed the collision to contact them at Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
