Roy Keane is on the warpath after Paddy Power used his face on a poster which was driven around Dublin before the Euro qualifier between Ireland and Scotland.

According to The Irish Daily Star, Keano is suing the bookmaking chain for tens of thousands of euro and has begun proceedings in the Dublin High Court.

The Ireland assistant manager, who turns 44 next month, lodged papers on Monday morning.

A date for the hearing is yet to be set, but is expected to be some time in 2016.

The former Manchester United star is using top legal firm A&L Goodbody while the bookmakers have engaged Arthur Cox to represent them.

If Paddy Power loses, it could cost them up to €100,000.

Spokesperson for the firm Paddy Power said: "Roy Keane has taken legal action against us following his face appearing on our Braveheart billboard ahead of the Ireland-Scotland game.

"It's with the lawyers now so obviously we can't talk about it, but hopefully they won't take our freedom to have a bit of craic," Mr Power added.

The poster in question shows Keane as Scottish hero William Wallace, the protagonist in Braveheart, with the caption “You may take our points, but at least we have our freedom”, followed by “ya wee pussies”.
